John Carpenter’s Village of the Damned is coming from Scream Factory

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With 1982's THE THING, which was a remake of 1951's THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, director John Carpenter made one of the most well received and highly respected remakes of all time. His 1995 attempt to remake the 1960 classic VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED didn't go over nearly as well. In fact, it's one of the least popular movies in Carpenter's filmography…

VILLAGE clearly has its fans, however, as Scream Factory, one of the best companies out there for special edition releases of genre films, has gotten multiple requests for them to give VILLAGE '95 the special edition treatment. So many requests that they have now announced that they have obtained the rights to the film and are working on putting together a special edition Blu-ray that's expected to reach shelves sometime in the late spring or early summer of 2016.

Christopher Reeve, Kirstie Alley, Linda Kozlowski, Michael Paré, and Mark Hamill star in the film, which tells the following story:

Something is terribly wrong in the tiny village of Midwich. After an unseen force invades a quiet coastal town, ten women mysteriously find themselves pregnant. Local physician Dr. Alan Chaffee and government scientist Dr. Susan Verner join forces when the women simultaneously give birth… and the reign of terror begins.

I don't find Carpenter's VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED to be very good at all, but I'll be interested to see what sort of bonus features Scream Factory puts together for it. Maybe they will inspire me to give the movie another chance.
