I do love me a good music biopic. I keep hearing about all these great musical biopics but only a small chunk of them have been pushed out. One we are hearing about again is for Tupac Shakur.

John Singleton, who directed Shakur in POETIC JUSTICE will be the one to helm his biopic. The director said this of the rapper/actor who passed away in 1996:

Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with. His passing deeply affected my life.. As well as countless people in this world … His life story is as important to my generation.

Singleton has had a few decent flicks under his belt, having been someone who already had a past with Shakur, I think he’s a stellar choice for the biopic. Former Death Row CEO Suge Knight and Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur will serve as producers. The director is starting rewrites on the script immediately, and is looking to begin production as early as this summer.

I wonder who they will sign to play Tupac. Anthony Mackie played him in 2009s NOTORIOUS. Any ideas?
