John Wick is a franchise that appears to be a fun endeavor for the cast. A labor of love that went from a throwaway action flick to one of the biggest series in Hollywood, the fourth film in the series has begun production. It seemed a foregone conclusion that the supporting players from the last film would be back, but never make assumptions, especially in the COVID-19 era. The latest to confirm their return for the fourth film is the legendary Ian McShane.
McShane plays Winston in the headshot-happy series, the owner of the New York Continental Hotel. Once considered a friend and confidant of Mr. Wick (Keanu Reeves), Winston transformed into a full-blown antagonist during the final events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. While I won't divulge the details of Winston's heel-turn here, I don't see how a sequel would have worked without him. To put it mildly, he and Mr. Wick have some unfinished business to attend to.
McShane joins the previously announced cast of Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Bill Skarsgard, and Lance Reddick.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently in production with plans to film in France, Germany, and Japan. Shay Hatten and Michael Finch wrote the script with Chad Stahelski set to direct. The first three films in the John Wick series have grossed $584.7M worldwide. That's not too shabby for an idea that started small but then grew into a money-printing franchise. In addition to the beloved film series, John Wick rakes in stacks of cash thanks to a video game adaptation, vinyl record sales, and boutique merch from outlets like MONDO. Needless to say, the boogieman is out from beneath the bed and doing just fine.
