Remember back when Jonah Hill dropped out of DJANGO UNCHAINED and then decided to come back? Well, now we know what role he will be playing in the film.

According to Quentin Tarantino at Comic Con, Hill will be playing a member of the Ku Klux Klan style group, The Regulators. The Regulators are “a group of people who kept slaves in line, found them if they escaped, and terrorized them.” The scene features a Regulator raid against Foxx and Waltz’s bounty hunters. “It starts off like it’s going to be very scary,” explained Tarantino, “And then they have this sequence that’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever written. Right up there with handing out the color names in Reservoir Dogs.”

Nice. Anything that harkens back to RESERVOIR DOGS is fine by me. But, that leads to the question: will DJANGO UNCHAINED reference any other Tarantino movies?

“There is one, but I don’t want to say it. I want you to watch it and figure it out.” However, he did claim boldly that Foxx’s Django and his wife, played by Kerry Washington, are the ancestors of a very famous cinematic icon. Washington, you see, plays a slave owned by a German family, with the very German name “Broomhilda von Schaft. Tarantino explained, “Her and Django will eventually have a baby, and then that baby will have a baby, and that baby will have a baby, and one of these days, John Shaft will be born!”

Tarantino himself is setting up DJANGO UNCHAINED to be a prequel to SHAFT! Only QT would do something that f**king awesome!

With just a week of filming left, Tarantino shared an extended eight minute reel of footage. Reaction was very positive. I hope we get a chance to see some of it, and soon!

Tarantino was also asked about the possibility of KILL BILL 3. While he said he was not sure if it would ever happen, he did reiterate that he always intended to wait ten years after the first films before even considering it. Looks like we have to wait a little longer on that one.

DJANGO UNCHAINED opens in theaters on December 25th.
