Joss Whedon talks Dr. Horrible sequel, his Shakespeare film, and aspirations to make a musical

I respect Joss Whedon for consistently taking fan questions and actually answering them. Sure, he is restricted from revealing certain things, but he tries his darndest to give the people what they want to know.

In keeping with that relationship, he recently took part in a Reddit session where fans could ask him anything.  Here are some of the highlights.

Regarding the Doctor Horrible sequel: We’re not shooting right now, we’re still in the early stages of writing. But we hope to make a great deal of progress this summer. And you can expect the death of someone you love…

Who is the bigger star in THE AVENGERS: Scarlett Johansson or her breasts?  All I can say is that Scarlett gets to do a lot more than be hot in Avengers. It’s definitely dispiriting to have a woman play an heroic role and then be reduced to body parts by fan commentary, but that can only change slowly. And is.

Why he filmed MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING:  I wanted to drag Shakespeare from obscurity. I’ve been a fan my whole life, and it’s time other people started noticing him!

The eternal question: studio system or indie?  I’m absolutely devoted to working outside the mainstream, or at least in smaller venues and on my own terms. (My terms : unconditional surrender. Plus back-end.)

Whedon also discusses BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, DOLLHOUSE, FIREFLY, and other projects.  Lets hope that THE AVENGERS is massively successful so that Whedon never again has to convince a producer to give him money.
