It’s been known for over a year that Joss Whedon is reinforcing his upcoming horror film THE CABIN IN THE WOODS with all kinds of subterfuge and red-herrings. Last year dude flat out admitted to leaking false information as way to build a set of expectations, only to yank the damn rug out from all of us when bringing those expectations into the theater. So this next bit of news should be treated with nothing less than a raised eyebrow. You see, actress Amy Acker popped up at WonderCon this past weekend and dropped a few interesting deets about the flick. Scope it…
Despite the simple logline of “A twisted and unusual take on the familiar cabin in the woods story” as our only reference point for what the film’s about, Acker told SciFi Wire that:’ “There’s a lot of scary monsters. It’s a scary movie.”
Nice. An out and out creature feature written by Whedon and directed by the guy who wrote CLOVERFIELD (Drew Goddard)? If this holds, here’s a flick I’m already ranking among my must see list of 2011. But again, just because this news comes from someone other than Whedon, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a ruse.
Acker continues:
“It is about a cabin in the woods. You’ve figured it out. Yeah, it’s about a cabin in the woods. It does take from the sort of formula of the horror movie of this group of young kids who go away to a cabin in the woods for the weekend, and everything that happens and what you think is supposed to happen.”
Sounds like Whedon and company are having a good time toying with our perceptions.
In addition to Acker (below), Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Jessie Williams, Chris Hemsworth, Fran Kranz, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Brian J. White, Jodelle Ferland, Monique Ganderton, Tom Lenk, Terry Chen and Chelah Horsdal are all set to star.
