SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS may not have been as well received by critics as the first movie, but it still made a ton of money: $186 million domestically and another $358 million in foreign markets. When a film does that well in theaters (especially a sequel) another movie is typically announced soon after, but there hasn't been any news on a third film and Robert Downey Jr. has been busy playing Iron Man. So what's going on with SHERLOCK HOLMES 3?
In an interview with Empire, Jude Law says he's had a couple of meetings with Warner Bros. for a third SHERLOCK film and he's very pleased with how the first two films turned out:
"I hate celebrating anything I've done, but I'm so proud of those films. I think it was Joel Silver who said, 'Take it out of that dusty room and put it on the street'."
SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS ended like many thought it would since it was influenced by the Sherlock short story "The Final Problem" and Law says Warner Bros. and the crew from the first two movies want to do a follow up. He also says they want the film to be better than the first two.
"I think Warners want it," says Law, "and there's a lot of want from us as a team. We want it to be better than the other two. We want to make sure it's smarter and cleverer, but in the same realm."
You can't have a Sherlock Holmes movie without Sherlock, but Robert Downey Jr. isn't the only one with a busy schedule says Jude Law.
"It's a slow process," he says. "We're all busy. So getting us together to try to nail that has taken a little bit longer than we had hoped."
Jude Law sounds hopeful, but I wonder if we'll actually get a third movie. With RDJ schedule and the meh response from critics for the last film, will Warner Bros. move forward with another Sherlock adventure? I guess all we can do is wait and see.
