Judge Dredd 3D being shopped at Cannes; who’s involved?

According to Deadline.com, Andrew Macdonald’s DNA Films has made a deal with India-based Reliance Big Entertainment to finance JUDGE DREDD, which is of course based on the UK comic series, but perhaps even better known – unfortunately – for the 1995 film starring Sly Stallone and Diane Lane. (I love Stallone, but this one was a dog.)

The screenplay was written by THE BEACH and 28 DAYS LATER scribe Alex Garland, with Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT) is attached to direct. The most interesting detail is that the budget is set around $50 million, which is damn low for a project like this. That said, this isn’t a studio product, but an independent feature. That is, at the moment – it will be shopped around the Cannes Film Festival, so expect to hear more in the coming weeks.

Oh, and did I mention that it will be in 3D? Well, it’ll be in 3D…
