Julianne Moore looks Oscar worthy in the trailer for Still Alice

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Alzheimer’s disease is scary as hell. The mere thought of losing your cognitive function in any way is more frightening than any horror film. Anyone who has had a loved one suffering from the disease knows how tragic it can be. Like any disease, there are triumphant stories to be told about those who cope with it day in and day out and those are the stories we like to see on film.

Julianne Moore is one of the most underappreciated actresses working today. She has steadily worked for years in both starring and supporting roles and has garnered critical acclaim over her career. A four time Oscar nominee, her latest effort may be her ticket to finally bringing home a much deserved trophy. STILL ALICE is the powerful tale of a woman coping with Alzheimer’s and the effect it has on her and here family.

Dr. Alice Howland learns that she is suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s disease. She struggles to manage her life while dealing with the illness and her job, marriage and children.

Just watching this trailer, you can feel hints of Moore’s stirring performance. This is not the type of movie that excites audiences with flashy direction but one that is powered by the actors. Moore looks great as does Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth, and even Kristen Stewart. Stewart here looks suprisingly good, something I never thought I would say about the TWILIGHT actress.

Moore has already been winning critical awards since the film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and it doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon. Expect to hear a lot more about this film in the coming months. it will hit theaters everywhere on January 16, 2015.
