Jupiter’s Legacy first look teases Netflix’s superhero series

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A batch of hi-res images from the Jupiter's Legacy first look has been unleashed, following the debut of a "first look" teaser trailer for the superhero series. The images highlight several members of the show's eclectic cast, including Brandon Sampson (Andrew Horton), Sheldon Sampson (Josh Duhamel), also known as the Utopian, the world's greatest superhero. Other images tease a look at Lady Liberty (Leslie Bibb), Brainwave (Ben Daniels), Hutch (Ian Quinlan), as well as the villainous Blackstar (Tyler Mane), who appears quite vexed at the thought of being clad in chains.

Based on the series of the same name by Mark Millar and Frank Quietly, Jupiter's Legacy focuses on the world's greatest heroes, who have grown old, and their legacy is a poisonous one to the children who will never live up to their remarkable parents. Wow! That's some crappy parenting, eh?

In addition to creating the comic that the series is based on, Millar and Quietly will executive produce alongside Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Steven S. DeKnight.

"After almost a century of superheroes just maintaining the status quo the smart ones start wondering what happens if they break the rules the older heroes have held onto their entire lives," Millar told Entertainment Weekly. "What happens if they step out of this repetitive cycle? This is our starting point and it just goes nuts from here."

To put it another way, "Imagine The Incredibles, but the kids were a nightmare," says Millar. "We're cutting back and forth between this naive optimism of a guy [Sheldon] who utterly believes he's going to save America by finding this island that doesn't exist and this man [in the present] who ultimately knows he's failed," Millar adds. "He's failed the country, he's failed the world, and he's failed his own family because the kids have ended up a mess."

Arriving as the first of multiple projects resulting from Millar's First Look deal with Netflix, Jupiter's Legacy premieres on streamer on May 7, 2021.
