Justice League Dark director Doug Liman says it’ll be a “personal” movie

It seems JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK is still a thing, with Doug Liman (SWINGERS, GO) the director chosen to bring it to life…at the moment. And, unless things have changed, the reported roster will include John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon. That's quite an interesting cast of characters, each with pretty convoluted backstories that audiences are not familiar with. Which is foreboding. I mean, I guess the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY pulled it off – but then again, last time DC tried it was SUICIDE SQUAD, so…

Anyway, in an interview with CinemaBlend about his upcoming project THE WALL, Liman had this to say about JLD:

I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate Justice League Dark is — in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies. We've found a way to do something that's actually really personal and small, and that's my goal…The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is… I just love people! I love putting people in crazy situations. For John Constantine, we have an amazing set-up for him for Justice League Dark that's really human.

More personal? Sure. That's probably code for "they're not giving us that big of a budget". I mean, I'm willing to assume the small scale nature is what drew Liman to the project in the first place, but I also can imagine WB hedging their bets as well.
