Katheryn Winnick, who plays Lagertha on the History Channel television series Vikings, is the latest cast member to be announced for director Nikolaj Arcel's adaptation of Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER saga.
Details on Winnick's character were not revealed, and it's very tough to guess who she might be playing because the film isn't an adaptation of any one specific book in the DARK TOWER series. The screenplay by Arcel, Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman, and Jeff Pinkner mixes together characters and story elements from several of the books, and of course takes creative liberties with them in the process.
Winnick joins a cast that so far includes Idris Elba as heroic gunslinger Roland Deschain, Tom Taylor as Roland's young sidekick Jake Chambers, Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black, Fran Kranz as the MIB's right hand man Pimli, Jackie Earle Haley as vampire leader Sayre, and Abbey Lee as Tirana, who was a minor baddie in the climactic book.
Based on the Stephen King-penned fantasy series, the film will follow a wandering knight (Elba) who is the last hope of the fallen land of Mid-World. He is charged with finding the Dark Tower while battling his nemesis the Man in Black (McConaughey).
Winnick's previous genre credits include SATAN'S LITTLE HELPER, HELLRAISER: HELLWORLD, and AMUSEMENT.
Currently filming in South Africa, THE DARK TOWER is set for a February 17, 2017 release.
