It appears as if those of you who were hoping that Cate Shortland’s solo BLACK WIDOW film would be receive an R-rating shall go wanting, for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has officially confirmed that the planned project starring Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romonoff will likely see the deadly super spy sticking to her PG-13 shtick.

Feige said as much during a recent interview with Comicbook.com, after the outlet asked him about the R-rated rumor head-on. “Yes. Correct,” the Marvel mastermind said to BLACK WIDOW not containing a copious amount of foul language or over-the-top violence. I mean, are you surprised? Like, even a little bit? After all, it makes sense for BLACK WIDOW to adhere to Marvel’s PG-13, seeing as the House of Ideas will want as many asses in theater seats as possible when Natasha cuts loose for her own solo adventure.

Feige went on to say, “It was never going to be,” in reference to the film receiving an R-rating. “Somebody writes, ‘I hear it’s R-rated!’ And then everybody writes it up.” Hmm, I can’t imagine who he’d be talking about, can you? This is not me throwing shade, I just can’t help but chuckle a bit at the way the ol’ news factory functions nowadays. Gotta get those clicks, y’all!

Later in the interview, Feige began talking with Comicbook.com about Marvel’s slate of films post-AVENGERS: ENDGAME, to which he said “There are no mandates to make any more than two films a year.” He then elaborated, “As we’ve seen in the last couple years, when it naturally happens and when there are ideas and when there are teams ready to go, we’re not going to hold something back. We’ll make it.”

For now, Cate Shortland is at the helm of BLACK WIDOW with Jac Schaeffer working diligently on the script. In the meantime, fans of Johansson’s Black Widow can look forward to seeing her give Thanos what for when AVENGERS: ENDGAME arrives in theaters this April.
