Kevin Smith apologizes to Bruce Willis over Cop Out feud following the reveal of his aphasia diagnosis

The world was extremely dismayed to hear that actor Bruce Willis would be retiring from the profession he has loved for years after it was revealed he was diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person’s ability to communicate. Sometimes these kinds of things can make you set aside silly disputes and that’s exactly what is happening with director Kevin Smith. The duo worked together on the 2010 buddy comedy Cop Out and their relationship was tumultuous, to say the least. Now that Smith knows of Willis’ current condition, he’s apologizing to the actor for the petty dispute.

Kevin Smith took to his Twitter page to express his condolences and he said, “Long before any of the Cop Out stuff, I was a big Bruce Willis fan, so this is really heartbreaking to read. He loved to act and sing and the loss of that has to be devastating for him. I feel like an asshole for my petty complaints from 2010. It has never been much of a secret that director Kevin Smith had a very difficult time working with Bruce Willis on the set of their 2010 comedy Cop Out. News of tension emerged within a few months of the film opening in theaters and both sides depicted a working relationship that was not complimentary. In Smith’s book about his entire career titled “Kevin Smith’s Secret Stash: The Definitive Visual History”, the director detailed some of his experiences on the film. I won’t rehash them here because they are pretty well-known at this point but good on him for offering some kind words to Willis and his family despite their uneasy working relationship.
