Kevin Smith confirms August Red State shoot, but who will he cast?

Kevin Smith’s long gestating political horror flick RED STATE is a project we’ve been tracking for three years this month. 3 mothafuc*kin’ years! With all the red tape, hiccups, starts and stalls, we were wondering if the flick would ever see the damn light of day. Our last update for the flick came back in April when Smith compared it to the sublime RACE WITH THE DEVIL. Well, it looks like we’ve got another morsel of RED STATE news.

Speaking with E! Online, Smith addressed the purported August start date for the filming of RED STATE, as well as discussed a bit about his casting decisions. Peep it…

“Red State is what we’re shooting in August. It’s a political horror movie, essentially. We’re still casting right now, but I don’t want to cast anybody that anybody knows because that takes you right out of the flick. The idea is what’s going to sell the movie.”

I do agree with assessment of big stars hindering the believability of a small horror story. And I’ve long been a fan of Smith, even owning all his pictures on DVD (up till JERSEY GIRL, do have CLERKS II though). Haven’t seen COP OUT, but that Dutch Rudder business in ZACK AND MIRI still fu*kin’ gets me. It goes without saying I’ll be giving RED STATE a day in court…if it ever does eventually happen!

How about you cats? Still hold interest for this flick or has it lingered in “what if” territory too long for you even care anymore?

Be a friend and squirt some blood below!

Smith’s Miri, Ms. Elizabeth Banks!
