Another ink grab or legitimate altruism?

Whatever you think of the man, whatever you think of the man’s the work, Kevin Smith has struck again!

Turns out the dude has dished out tickets to the New York Police Department for his first screening of RED STATE, as you know his first foray into the genre pool. The screening goes down March 5th at NY’s famed Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Center.

Per an official press release, here’s the motivation behind such an idea:

Designed as a free date night for the city’s finest, NYPD officers will have the opportunity to claim a block of tickets to the event for themselves and their significant others. Smith said, “I can’t think of a better way to say ‘I’m Sorry’ for Cop Out than to give tickets to the New York Police Department.” He added “It will be the safest premiere on the planet.”

From there, RED STATE continues on a 16 city tour around the country. The tour features a screening of Red State followed by a live appearance from Kevin Smith where he will discuss the film. Tickets are available to the general public now via Ticketmaster.
