Kevin Smith has released the teaser for RED STATE on his website, and you can watch it below. I must say, it looks like the genuine article: a horror movie with lots of bondage, screaming, torture, cages, guns and, of course, creepy religious overtones. I’m impressed by how intense it looks, but of course we won’t know just how effective it is until its premiere at next month’s Sundance Film Festival.
RED STATE has a pretty solid cast including Michael Parks (who sings the eerie hymn in the teaser), John Goodman, Kevin Pollak, Stephen Root, Anna Gunn, Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano and Melissa Leo, who looks like she’s a sure bet to win an Oscar for THE FIGHTER.
The end of the teaser claims the film will be released in March, which is odd considering Smith doesn’t have a distributor yet. Nevertheless, I suppose it won’t be too long before we actually get a look at the thing.
