Killer crocodile movie Black Water: Abyss gets August release

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Thirteen years after teaming with David Nerlich on the killer crocodile movie BLACK WATER, Andrew Traucki has gone solo to direct the sequel BLACK WATER: ABYSS. Screen Media has announced that they've acquired the North American distribution rights to the film and are planning to release it on August 7th.

Written by John Ridley and Sarah Smith, BLACK WATER: ABYSS follows

a group of friends who are exploring a remote cave system deep in the forests of Northern Austrailia when a tropical storm hits. As rising flood waters trap them deep below the surface, something even deadlier emerges from the darkness – killer crocodiles.

Jessica McNamee, Luke Mitchell, Amali Golden, Benjamin Hoetjes, and Anthony J. Sharpe star.

Seth Needle, SVP of Global Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Screen Media, described the film as a "clever and well-executed thrill ride". It was produced by Neal Kingston, Michael Robertson, and Pam Collis.

I really liked the first BLACK WATER, which was about three characters being stalked and attacked by crocodiles when their boat capsizes in a mangrove, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Traucki has done with this sequel.

We'll keep you updated on BLACK WATER: ABYSS as it heads toward release.
