A couple weeks ago, I wrote about a curious little movie from director Quentin Dupieux called RUBBER, which is about a homicidal tire that kills people with its “mind”. It seemed like a goof; an internet joke-of-the-day that would never amount to much. Except that it just might. Deadline.com is reporting that Magnet Releasing – no stranger to intriguing genre titles as distributor of flicks like TIME CRIMES, THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and the upcoming [REC]2 – has picked up the abstract flick at Cannes.
“Robert the tire has to be the most unforgettable villain of the decade,” said Magnet SVP Tom Quinn, in a statement. “Quentin Dupieux is a crazy genius.”
Not sure if one or both of those statements was made sincerely or not, but the word “crazy” seems fitting… No word on when they plan on releasing the oddity, but I can’t deny that I’ll be checking it out once it’s available. (Well, maybe not at full price.)
Give the promo teaser a peek below.
