Magnet Releasing is one of the most reliable distributors out there. The genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, it puts out some of the best foreign and independent titles that would other end up going straight to DVD.
One of their recent acquisitions that has a lot of buzz behind it is I SAW THE DEVIL. Just read Arrow’s glowing review. Magnet has set a March 4th date for its U.S. limited theatrical release. It will be opening against Dimension’s APOLLO 18. Here is the plot:
Kyung-chul, a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. He has committed infernal serial murders in diabolic ways that one cannot even imagine and his victims range from young women to even children. The police have chased him for a long time, but were unable to catch him. One day, Joo-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief becomes his prey and is found dead in a horrific state.
Her fiance Dae-hoon, a top secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.
The South Korena thriller is directed by Kim Jee-woon (A TALE OF TWO SISTERS), written by Park Hoon-Jung, and stars Choi Min-sik (OLDBOY) and Lee Byung-hun (G.I. Joe: THE RISE OF THE COBRA). The picture has also been accepted into the “Park City at Midngiht” portion of the Sundance Film Festival.
