While Arnold Schwarzenegger has his hands full filming TERMINATOR: GENESIS, many are left wondering whether or not he's going to get around to another CONAN flick afterwards. Fortunately, TheArnoldFans recently spoke with producer Fredrik Malmberg on the status of THE LEGEND OF CONAN, and he had some good things to say.

Fredrik Malmberg, producer on THE LEGEND OF CONAN, said this about the current script:

We want to polish up the script, specifically about the characters, but we don't think it will take long. We'll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday and then we'll take it to the studio and if they're happy, we can hopefully start in the Spring.

In regards to a director for THE LEGEND OF CONAN:

We haven't been talking with directors yet. A lot of directors have come fourth and expressed interest and that they like Conan and want to be involved when we're at that stage but the studio said they want the script to be ready before we officially approach the directors. But we have been in touch with old great names and new fresh faces. We're excited about finding the right guy for that.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1982) is far from a perfect film, but there are a lot of attributes that you don't see often in the fantasy genre. The lack of dialogue and more realistic portrayal of gore worked in the film's favor, setting up a kind of a National Geographic-esque feel for an era that never was. I would love to see that approach emulated with some modern-day sensibilities to create a fantasy film that people have never seen before. The director will play a huge role in that, and so it's with that announcement that I'll start to get excited.

KING CONAN will hopefully go into production early 2015, barring any delays.

Or, ya know, they could go a different direction . . .
