Kon-Tiki helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will take on Pirates of the Caribbean 5

Seems that the rumors were correct– KON-TIKI helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will be the men to take on the duties of directing PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5.

Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have signed off on the choice, and now negotiations will be quick and dirty. Okay, probably not dirty, but they will be quick.

We have no story details on the fifth installment of the franchise. Pirates, right? Something involving pirates. Last we left Captain Jack Sparrow in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN ON STRANGER TIDES, he was walking off into the sunset with Gibbs and ships in bottles. I’m sure someone can get the Black Pearl back to her original size. Where will he go next, there’s no telling.

This is definitely a big job for Rønning and Sandberg, whose KON-TIKI was nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars.

Prep for the film will be underway late this year or January 2014.
