Russell Crowe is joining Aaron Taylor-Johnson for Sony‘s Marvel movie Kraven the Hunter. Taylor-Johnson will star as Kraven the Hunter, a Spider-Man villain obsessed with killing and adding the world’s most elusive targets to his growing collection. Taylor-Johnson has signed a multi-year deal to play the character. J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier, A Most Violent Year) is directing from a screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing. Story details and the nature of Crowe’s role are being kept under wraps.

Born Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven the Hunter is a Russian immigrant whose aristocratic family fled to America following the Russian Revolution. With intensive training and the help of a potion that gave him superhuman abilities, including increased strength, speed, reflexes, and enhanced senses, Kraven became a fearsome big-game hunter who tackled the most dangerous game on the planet, preferably with his bare hands. Kraven is also one of Spider-Man’s most famous villains, and, in one of his most memorable comic-book stories, Kraven’s Last Hunt, even defeats Spider-Man by seemingly killing him and burying him. Kraven then assumed Spider-Man’s identity by donning his own Spidey outfit and set out to prove himself superior at his former adversary’s own game.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to comic-book movies, as he previously starred in Kick-Ass and appeared as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Taylor-Johnson’s multi-year deal for Kraven the Hunter tells us that he’ll be playing this character for years to come. Will Sony finally launch their Sinister Six movie in the coming years? What does a movie like that even look like?

Kraven the Hunter is just one movie in Sony’s Spider-Verse. The studio also has Morbius on the way and is currently developing a movie featuring Madame Web with Dakota Johnson in the title role.

What do you think about Sony giving Kraven the Hunter his own movie, and that Russell Crowe is going to be in it? Is Taylor-Johnson right for the part? Who do you think Crowe will play in the film? Let us see your predictions in the comments section below.
