Kristen Stewart just nabbed the lead in a new film that doesn’t involve vampires or guys that turn into werewolves that never wear shirts.
Stewart is starring in the big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. Walter Salles will helm the film with Oscar nominated screenwriter Jose Rivera whom the director worked with on THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES. Francis Ford Coppola will produce via his San Francisco-based outfit American Zoetrop.
Director Salles traveled across the United States following Kerouac’s footsteps for the adaptation. He filmed a documentary on his journey as part of his preparation.
The role Stewart will play is the adventurous on and off wife of Dean Moriarity, Marylou. Sam Riley (CONTROL) is starring as Kerouac’s alter-ego Sal Paradise. Garrett Hedlund (TRON: LEGACY) has been cast as Moriarity.
On the Road was typed on a 120 ft. scroll then adapted into a book published in 1957. The famous novel, “chronicles Jack Kerouac’s years traveling the North American continent with his friend Neal Cassady, “a sideburned hero of the snowy West.” As “Sal Paradise” and “Dean Moriarty,” the two roam the country in a quest for self-knowledge and experience.”
