Kristen Wigg will make directorial debut with a buddy comedy

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The always adorable Kristen Wiig is set to make her directorial debut with an untitled comedy for TriStar; she will also write and star with her BRIDESMAIDS collaborator Annie Mumolo. The movie will be set in Vista Del Mar and follow two "best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths," with laughs to development from there I’m sure.

Wiig told the New York Times. "I've been wanting to direct for some time now. This seems like the perfect first project," while TriStar chairman Tom Rothman adding, "Kristen and Annie assured me that the film will be a searing and depressing drama, which is what the world needs right now". Funny guy!

Here's a fact that I had forgotten all about, Wiig and Mumola received a Best Original Screenplay nomination for BRIDESMAIDS. Now that movie was funny, but an Oscar nomination? That will stay with me for a few days now. It's a good movie, but how hard up were we for original screenplays in 2011? Mumola meanwhile also wrote David O. Russell's upcoming drama JOY starring Jennifer Lawrence as the Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano; so expect another nomination for her.
