Latifah Just Wright?

Queen Latifah has been tapped to star in an update of the Cinderella tale for Fox Searchlight enitled JUST WRIGHT. The story revolves around a female physical therapist who falls in love with a basketball player while helping him recover from a career-threatening injury.

The premise sounds like it could work in theory, but with Latifah as the lead in a romantic comedy? And as a Cinderella type no less? Of course I remember the episode of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, where Latifah played Will’s love interest (damn she looked fine in that plaid mini skirt), but somehow I don’t see Latifah as a romantic lead translating to the big screen. Perhaps she will be cast as the Fairy Godmother and not as Cinderella herself. Or perhaps I’m a tad short sighted, or even slightly old fashioned, but I’ll take a delicate flower like Meg Ryan over a boisterous loudmouth like Latifah anyday. Long live the Queen.
