Law & Order: Organized Crime crew member shot and killed while filming the show’s third season

Tragedy hit the set of Law & Order: Organized Crime early Tuesday morning when a crew member was shot and killed by an unknown person.

“We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result,” NBC and studio Universal Television said in a joint statement. “We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

According to multiple reports, the unnamed crew member was sitting in his car at 5:15 a.m. ET in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, when an unknown person approached the car, opened the door, and fired a gun. The crew member was there to reserve parking and guard trucks loaded with equipment. A motive for the crime has yet to be established. No arrest has been made.

Law & Order: Organized Crime stars SVU’s Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler, an NYPD organized crime unit member. The spinoff series follows the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau as they work to destabilize and prevent crime in the New York City area. Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger, and Nona Parker Johnson also star in the series.

We want to extend our condolences to the victim’s family and hope that swift justice comes for the person responsible for the shooting. Sadly, gun violence is ever-present and rising in the United States, making incidents like this all too common.
