I am not ashamed to admit that I like ABC’s ONCE UPON A TIME. I guess for me it is the fact that it is the closest thing to a series based on the Vertigo comic Fables that we will get for a while. Sure, it gets a little campy in places, but it is a fun lead in on Sunday nights before I watch THE WALKING DEAD.

ONCE UPON A TIME will be featured at Comic Con next week and two new cast members have been announced just in time. Jamie Chung (SUCKER PUNCH, THE HANGOVER PART II) has joined the new season as Mulan and Sarah Bolger (THE TUDORS) will portray Princess Aurora/Sleeping Beauty.

Disney-owned ABC benefits from having full access to the library of animated fairy tale characters that make up the universe of the television show. Emily De Ravin’s Belle character will be upgraded to series regular as well.

Chung’s Mulan is described as having been trained in weaponry, tracking and riding, but “has a spirituality that enhances her tactical and strategic abilities. She has suffered past betrayals, so her trust is hard-won, but once she gives her oath of friendship her loyalty knows no boundaries.” Also, “when she falls in love, she falls hard.”

Bolger’s Sleeping Beauty is described a spoiled girl from a privileged background who’s willing to “sacrifice everything for love.”

The show really opened up a world of possibilities with the events of the first season finale, but it remains to be seen what surprises are in store for season two. Stay tuned for more next week.

Season 2 will premiere on ABC on October 23rd.
