Legendary to produce a reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Sharpen your meat hooks and gas up those chainsaws because Tobe Hooper's classic cannibal family is coming back to the big screen!

Legendary has acquired the rights to the cult classic horror franchise with aims to create a new generation of scarred viewers.afraid to venture into the desolate Texas countryside. Armed with EVIL DEAD producer Fede Alvarez, the new film will be directed by Ryan and Andy Tohill (THE DIG). Alvarez had this to say about their take on the remake:

“The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want,” Alvarez said in a statement. “It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.”

Leatherface remains one of the most iconic horror characters of all time and despite involvement from Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes banner and even a 3D infused sequel, no filmmaker has managed to come close to Hooper's original movie.

Plot details for the reboot are being kept under wraps at this time, including how the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface will arrive in a more contemporary setting. That said, I've no doubt that the film will showcase plenty of gore, as well as a myriad of cringe-worthy kills. For me, the story of Leatherface and his family are the stuff of nightmares, mostly because lunatics of a cannibalistic nature do indeed exist in the dark corners of our world. Say what you want about dream demons and hockey mask-wearing psychopaths who don't know how to swim, Leatherface is the real deal, and I would not want to end up as a featured item on his personal menu.
