Levy talks Real Steel

As we heard not long ago, Hugh Jackman is trading in his razor claws for some metallic boxing gloves for a futuristic action-drama called REAL STEEL.

The movie is described as “a Rocky-esque tale of a fighter who has to reinvent himself when human boxing becomes obsolete, replaced by 2000 pound human-like robots,” and director Shawn Levy (A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 1 & 2) gives a bit more info to Sci-Fi Wire.

The movie is apparently based on story by Richard Matheson (I AM LEGEND) that was previously adapted into a Lee Marvin-starring “Twilight Zone” episode, and Levy claims that he plans to stick close to the source material: “It’s faithful to the story in that that story was very much about a down-on-his-luck, slightly desperate journeyman who works in this robot boxing sport and who is desperately needing redemption and one last shot.”

He also says the movie’s robots will be more realistic than TRANSFORMERS: “Unlike a lot of these others, these are human-built, human-scale fighting machines. They are built for human spectacle. People in this movie have gotten bored with human carnage and human violence. So in the quest for more, more, more, this sport has evolved to this.”

A world bored with human carnage? Wow, it really is science fiction!
