Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, and more take historical moments to task in the trailer for Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness

Patriotism is a fascinating phenomenon. Having pride in your country is one thing, but pretending like its founding fathers, pioneers, and revolutionaries were infallible is another story altogether. Let’s face it, not many of us would survive an age before automobiles, air travel, modern medicine, and internet access. I know I wouldn’t. I’d die of boredom in a week or less. Thankfully, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David is back with a brand-new comedy series that offers some perspective on “when days were golden” in the hilarious trailer for Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America.

Who stars in David’s new comedy series?

Premiering on June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max for a seven- episode run ending on August 7, the show is in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The show stars Larry David, with a who’s who of guest stars, including Jon Hamm, Sean Hayes, Jerry Seinfeld, Rita Wilson, Susie Essman, Essence Atkins, Toby Huss, Greg Kinnear, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Vince Vaughn, Chris Parnell, Jane Krakowski, and Isla Fisher.

The series is written and executive-produced by David and co-created by Jeff Schaffer, who also serves as director. It is executive-produced by Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Ethan Lewis, and Vinnie Malhotra for Higher Ground.

The official logline states, “Those who don’t know history… are doomed to watch Larry David repeat it.”

Happy Birthday, America!

While I’m typically a hard sell when it comes to comedy, Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America looks hilarious. I love the fact that Barack and Michelle Obama are executive producers, suggesting they’ve got a great sense of humor about America’s history and its many, many head-scratching moments and cringe-worthy leaders. The timing for the premiere is also a stroke of genius, and certainly more interesting to me than a UFC match on the front lawn of the White House. If anyone can take the piss out of America’s questionable history, it’s Larry David and his assembly of comedic greats.
