Lionsgate inks deal to bring movies exclusively to Peacock in 2024

John Wick, Lionsgate, Peacock, 2024, Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Lionsgate and Peacock are joining forces for a deal that is sure the NBCUniversal streaming service subscribers are getting their money’s worth. The pact exclusively brings all theatrically released Lionsgate films to Peacock for their Pay 2 tier, starting in 2024. The setup will launch by bringing Lionsgate’s 2022 slate to the platform, beginning with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Other movies destined for Peacock include John Wick: Chapter 4, the Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Expendables 4, Borderlands, and Kelly Fremon Craig’s Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

In addition to the new Peacock deal, Lionsgate recently agreed with The Roku Channel, which offers the platform exclusive rights to Lionsgate’s film slate immediately after the first pay theatrical window on Starz. This arrangement starts with a first short-term window and will expand to a second, more flexible window later.

“These agreements affirm the great demand for first-run studio movies across every kind of platform – AVOD, SVOD, basic cable, and FAST,” Lionsgate president of worldwide television distribution Jim Packer said.

“Movies are among the most-streamed titles on Peacock, and we continue to expand our premium film offering from top studios, like Lionsgate, to ensure customers enjoy a steady stream of the biggest and best films to enjoy throughout the year,” Val Boreland, executive VP of content acquisition at NBCUniversal television and streaming in another statement.

Peacock also announced that three films would come to the streamer in 2023, including the LeBron James biopic Shooting Stars, Will Packer’s Praise This, and John Woo’s reimagined The Killer.

It’s always lovely when a streaming service decides to sweeten the pot. I hope all the Peacock subscribers enjoy the spoils when the time comes to share.
