Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the full teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and it teases some pretty epic tales of the Second-Age. This comes just days after the streamer revealed their first look images for what’s set to be the most expensive TV show of all time. The teaser trailer is just that – a tease- but we did see some jaw-droppingly gorgeous visuals from the show, as well as a peek at the new cast. We really do live in a golden age of TV, as back when The Fellowship of the Ring came out in 2001, the idea that we’d get a weekly show with production values to rival anything in theaters seemed utterly impossible. I doubt this is a show that even could have been made a few years ago, and it looks extraordinary.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will bring to the screen for the very first time J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age of Middle-Earth’s history. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the show will follow characters both familiar and new as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-Earth. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay had this to say about the series earlier this week:

“This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set in the Second Age of Middle Earth, thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and novels. The cast is headlined by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

Will YOU be watching The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power? The series hits Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
