New clip from Netflix’s Luke Cage showcases Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

So I'm excited for LUKE CAGE like no one's business. Along with BLACK PANTHER and the new BLACK LIGHTNING TV show coming out, it's nice to see more diversity in the superhero genre. And we've aleady seen Mike Colter play Luke Cage and kill it on JESSICA JONES, so that makes the anticipation on the new show even greater.

To whet our appetite, Netflix has released a new clip showcasing the main villain of the show, Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes (played by HOUSE OF CARDS' Mahershala Ali). In the comics Cottonmouth was a poweful drug lord, and seems to have a similar role in the new show.

Here's the clip:

That's suitably menacing, don't you think? I like the touch of having the crown appear to be on top of Cottonmouth's head from the Biggie Smalls portrait in the background by the end of the scene. It's not subtle at all, but that's fine because neither are comics. It's fun and pulpy and I love it.

LUKE CAGE will begin streaming on Netflix September 30th, 2016
