Lure: The Nun’s Corin Hardy directing haunted tavern film for Platinum Dunes

About nine months ago, we heard that Michael Bay and Brad Fuller are reviving their production company Platinum Dunes at Universal – and now Deadline reports that one of the movies we’ll be getting from the revived Platinum Dunes is the supernatural horror film Lure, with Corin Hardy (The Nun) directing. Chris Bernier (Halloween Ends) is currently writing the screenplay.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, we do know that Lure is based on the haunting of the real-life King’s Tavern, considered to be the most haunted building in all of Mississippi, with one of its tenants being the murdered mistress of one of the tavern’s original owners.

I hadn’t heard of King’s Tavern before this announcement, but Wikipedia informs that the place is one of the oldest buildings in Natchez, Mississippi, as it was first build in 1769. It’s also considered to be “the most haunted restaurant in Mississippi”, which makes me wonder just how many haunted restaurants there are in Mississippi. The building is believed to be haunted by several ghosts, including Madeline, the mistress of one of the tavern’s original owners. Although many believe Madeline was murdered by the wife of her lover, no one is sure what happened to her. In the 1930s, when the skeletal remains of three bodies, two men and one woman, which was assumed to be Madeline, hidden in the wall behind the fireplace. A jeweled dagger was also found with the remains which was assumed to be the murder weapon. Aside from supernatural happenings believed to be caused by Madeline, employees have reported hearing a baby crying, seeing mysterious reflections appear in mirrors, and an unoccupied bed giving off a warmth as if someone was sleeping in it.

So it sounds like it’s a fine setting for a horror movie.

Are you familiar with the King’s Tavern? What do you think of Platinum Dunes, Corin Hardy, and Chris Bernier joining forces to make a horror movie set in the location? Share your thoughts on Lure by leaving a comment below.
