Madame Web: Emma Roberts lands role in Spider-Man spinoff

Emma Roberts has become the latest casting addition to the Spider-Man spinoff, Madame Web, at Sony Pictures. Despite Sony having no comment about the casting news, Deadline is running it as an exclusive so it appears to be legit.

Roberts would be joining Dakota Johnson, playing the titular character, Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim. The film is set to be directed by S.J. Clarkson while screenwriting duties fall on Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

In the comic book world, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life-support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains. There are some who speculate that Johnson won’t be playing an elderly version of the character but this has yet to be confirmed. Also, as of this writing, Emma Roberts’ character is unknown.

Emma Roberts is coming off of recently wrapping the upcoming romantic comedy Maybe I Do, which stars Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and Richard Gere. She is also flexing her producing muscles by recently having a producer’s credit on the Netflix film, First Kill.

Are YOU excited that Emma Roberts has joined the cast of Madame Web?
