A full trailer has arrived for Madden, the upcoming sports biopic starring Nicolas Cage as legendary NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden. Directed by David O. Russell, the film follows Madden’s journey from the sidelines of the Oakland Raiders to becoming one of the most recognizable voices in football and the namesake of the popular Madden NFL video game franchise. Cage stars opposite Christian Bale, who plays Raiders owner Al Davis. The film also features Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, John Mulaney as EA founder Trip Hawkins, and Shane Gillis as an original character close to the Madden family. John Madden coached the Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1978, leading the team to victory in Super Bowl XI.
Amazon MGM Studios describes the film as a celebration of Madden’s personality, friendships, family life, love of football, and relationship with Davis. The official synopsis reads:
“Inspired by the life of a beloved American icon, MADDEN chronicles John Madden’s incredible journey alongside best friend and true original Al Davis – from a Super Bowl-winning partnership with the Raiders, to becoming football’s most recognizable voice, to building the worldwide Madden NFL video game.”
Russell directed Madden from a screenplay he wrote with Cambron Clark. The film is produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Jonathan Shukat, Russell, Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson, with David Bloomfield, Constance Schwartz-Morini, and Michael Strahan serving as executive producers.
The movie marks Russell’s first feature since 2022’s Amsterdam, which also starred Christian Bale, and that wasn’t their first collaboration. Bale previously worked with the filmmaker on The Fighter and American Hustle.
Cage recently starred in Prime Video’s Spider-Noir and continues to take on an eclectic mix of dramatic, genre, and blockbuster roles.
Madden will be available to stream globally on Prime Video beginning November 18, 2026. The film is also expected to receive an awards-qualifying theatrical release ahead of its streaming debut.
