The directorial debut of Nicolas Pesce, THE EYES OF MY MOTHER was a breakaway the hit of Sundance. With rapturous reviews from critics and audiences alike, it's no surprise it has received some attention. Magnet Releasing has acquired the worldwide rights to the film, release date pending. The genre-bending film is shot in crisp black and white, echoing recent genre triumph A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT.

THE EYES OF MY MOTHER is the story of:

Francisca, a young woman who has been unfazed by death from an early age. Francisca’ mother, a former surgeon, imbued her with a thorough understanding of the human anatomy. When tragedy shatters the family’s idyllic life in the countryside, Francisca’s deep trauma gradually awakens some unique curiosities. As she grows up, her desire to connect with the world around her takes a distinctly dark form.

It sounds a little like MAY or STOKER, a dark tale of an alienated young woman that's beautiful and psychologically bruising. Starring newcomer Kika Magalhaes, this could be a real career-making role in the right hands. And it seems like it may have just found them.
