Even though we're still waiting for DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES to hit theaters on July 11 we are already aware that the story of the PLANET OF THE APES will continue on with at least one more film, recently learning that DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES director Matt Reeves (who also directed 2008's CLOVERFIELD) would be returning to take the helm of the as-yet-untitled third film, and today we know when to expect to see that particular film hitting cinemas.

Fox has announced an initial release date of July 29, 2016 for the third entry in the franchise, with Reeves writing the script alongside Mark Bomback. Reeves will go right into the third film, as it's a priority for the studio.

As for DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, it will be hitting theaters later this year on July 11 with Andy Serkis, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Judy Greer, and Jocko Sims starring.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
