Margot Robbie and Matthias Schoenaerts to star in Ruin, a WWII drama

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

MadRiver Pictures has announced that they're going to war with the upcoming production of RUIN, a WWII drama top-lined by both Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie (SUICIDE SQUAD, THE WOLF OF WALL STREET) and Matthias Schoenaerts (BULLHEAD, THE DANISH GIRL). Set to direct the film is ASSASSIN'S CREED and MACBETH alum Justin Kurzel, who will shoot from a script penned by both Ryan (TEN YEARS) and Matthew Firpo (REFUGE). Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures will produce alongside Kurzel, with MadRiver’s Ara Keshishian serving as executive producer alongside Nik Bower and Deepak Nayar of Riverstone Pictures, who are co-financing.

In the ruins of post-WWII Germany, a Holocaust survivor (Robbie) is forced to make an unlikely alliance with an ex-SS captain (Schoenaerts) in her quest to exact revenge.  Together, they hunt down the surviving members of the captain’s former Nazi death squad.

Principal photography for the film is scheduled to take place in Prague during Q2 of 2019.

Robbie will next star as Queen Elizabeth I in MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS for director Josei Rourke. For the time being, she is currently playing the part of Sharon Tate for Quentin Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD. She is also expected to return as Harley Quinn for Warner Bros. planned BIRDS OF PREY feature.

Schoenaerts can next be seen in David Oelhoffen’s CLOSE ENEMIES, which is scheduled to premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
