Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1 Swear Count video lets the expletives fly

"Language!"

It's time to bust out the Swear Jar and cover any young and impressionable ears that might be in the room, because we've got an MCU supercut from video editor Matej Lavrincik that is chock-full of expletives! Featuring the films of Marvel's Phase 1 initiative: IRON MAN, IRON MAN 2, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER and THE AVENGERS, the above video shows that when placed under pressure, even superheroes are known to conjure some of society's more frowned upon expressions.

Thankfully, Marvel's pantheon of films have kept things PG-13 throughout the years, thereby making certain that just about anyone can enjoy the ride. Truth be told, language featured in PG-13 affairs has become quite tame since I was a child of the '80s. Back then, major motion pictures could get away with a hell of a lot in terms of name calling, excited expressions, and talk of marginalized groups on screen. Don't believe me? Go back and watch a film like Steven Spielberg's THE GOONIES, or director Fred Dekker's THE MONSTER SQUAD. Scriptwriters had a bit more freedom with young ones' dialogue back in those days, and I can guarantee that you'd be astonished by some of the foul language that passed through their not-so-innocent lips.

Cussing aside, the MCU library prides itself on being a family affair, first and foremost. Oh sure, maybe your nine-year-old has adapted a few choice phrases because of Tony Stark's temperament, but to be honest, they would have picked it up from their schoolyard friends eventually. There's nothing that you can do to stop the passing of time, but what you can do right now is watch the video above, and laugh along to all the times that Earth's Mightiest Heroes and their compatriots of Marvel's Phase 1 let the expletives fly, all while saving the world from threats beyond our imagination.
