Eternals sequel isn’t necessary, says producer

Many people would assume that any Marvel Studios would be prepped for sequel status but Marvel producer Nate Moore says their upcoming release of Eternals doesn’t necessarily require a sequel.

While speaking with “The Toronto Sun“, Moore spoke of the prospects of an Eternals sequel and he said while it’s not out of question, it’s not something that is 100% guaranteed:

“It’s not something that is a must-have. Obviously, we have ideas of where we could go, but there isn’t a hard and fast rule where we have to have three of these things and this is the first.”

A lot is riding on Eternals because many feel it’s the MCU’s riskiest gamble yet. It was only back in September that the industry wondered if the film would get an exclusive theatrical release or go day and date with a streaming release as well as they did with Black Widow. After the success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Disney decided to go strictly theatrical, and ever since tickets went on sale for Eternals, the news about the film has become extremely positive. First-day pre-sales were said to be stronger than Black Widow and Shang-Chi and early box office tracking has the film topping both of their openings with a debut north of $100 million. Early reaction to Eternals was good out of the gate but as more critical reviews have come out, the film has officially gone rotten on Rotten Tomatoes with a 59%. I’m sure Marvel is hoping for plans to expand the universe with a sequel but we will have to wait and see how moviegoers respond to the film.

As per the official synopsis, “Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” welcomes an exciting new team of Super Heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The epic story, spanning thousands of years, features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman.”

Do YOU think we will get an Eternals sequel?
