Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Dogma, Matt Damon

For those of you who've seen the trailer for JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT, you'll already know that DOGMA actor Matt Damon is set to make an appearance in Kevin Smith's upcoming sequel to JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK. However, it wasn't until today when Smith posted a photo of himself with Damon on Instagram that we now have a confirmation as to the nature of the GOOD WILL HUNTING actor's part in the upcoming comedy.

If you’ve seen the @jayandsilentbob trailer (link in my bio) then you know #mattdamon came back! Matty was part of the fun in #jayandsilentbobstrikeback so when we started #JayAndSilentBobReboot, we reached out to Matt to see if he wanted to return to the scene of the crime. When he confirmed, I started thinking about how to best use good Will Hunting and which role he could play. Then @jenschwalbach suggested “Why don’t you use him as Loki?” I scoffed like a hardcore Kevin Smith fan, replying “I can’t play with Loki. Loki died.” Jen smiled and said “Well it’s a good thing you don’t know the writer, or else you might be able to change your idea.” And just like that, my wife made the movie better. I asked costume designer @ruckusaurus to put together a Loki-looking ensemble, found a church, and broke out my life size Dogma action figure. And with that, I was able to do mini-sequels to *all* my #viewaskew flicks in the middle of #jayandsilentbobreboot! Wanna see how it all comes together? Check out our @fathomevents Sneak Preview screenings on October 15th and 17th or come watch the flick with me and @jaymewes when the @jayandsilentbob Reboot Roadshow hits a theater near you! #KevinSmith #goodwillhunting #90skids #viewaskewniverse

According to the post, it would seem that Smith was uncertain of how to use Damon for his new film. That is until Kevin's wife, Jennifer Schwalback Smith, suggested that he resurrect Damon's Loki character from the blasphemous 1999 comedy DOGMA. At first, Smith was perplexed, seeing as how Loki died several years ago, thereby exiting the View Askewniverse forever. However, Jennifer then pointed out to her husband that he's the master of his own domain, and as the writer of both DOGMA and JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT, he can do whatever the hell he wants with his own characters. With Jennifer's point made, and Damon open to coming back for a part in the new film, Kevin set to work on bringing Loki back to cause more mischief in 2019.

Directed, written by, and starring Kevin Smith as Silent Bob, alongside Jason Mewes as Jay, JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT serves as a who's who of Smith's View Askewniverse. In the film, we find that Jay is the estranged baby daddy of a love child he'd unwittingly had with Justice, Shannon Elizabeth's character from the 2001 original. As Jay and Silent Bob try to wrap their twisted, pot-shoked minds around their new reality, they agree to bring a few new players along for their mission to destroy a Bluntman and Chronic movie from being made.

In addition to starring Smith and Mewes, celebrities the likes of David Dastmalchian, Jason Lee, Joe Manganiello, Craig Robinson, Justin Long, Fred Armisen, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Hemsworth, Method Man, Redman, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, Brian Quinn, and Tommy Chong all have parts in the new film.

How do you think Smith will explain Loki's resurrection in JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT? Let us know in the comments section below.

JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT will begin loitering around theaters on October 15, 2019.
