KICK-ASS and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS director Matthew Vaughn has set his sights on the supernatural for his next project, an adaptation of GHOSTGIRL, a series of books from author Tonya Hurley. The books, which revolve around a dead teenager who roams the hallways of her high school, have sold millions of copies worldwide, with at least one of them winding up on the New York Times Bestseller List.
At the moment it's unclear whether or not Vaughn will direct GHOSTGIRL, but he's certainly produce via his production company Marv Films.
Here's the plot of the first novel:
Charlotte Usher feels practically invisible at school, and then one day she really is invisible. Even worse: she's dead. And all because she choked on a gummy bear. But being dead doesn't stop Charlotte from wanting to be popular; it just makes her more creative about achieving her goal.
If you thought high school was a matter of life or death, wait till you see just how true that is.
These books have been categorized as "young adult," which certainly gave me pause when deciding on whether or not to write about it, but Vaughn is such an interesting filmmaker that I personally can't wait to see what his spin on this thing will be, if he does indeed end up directing it. (His next film, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, comes out in February and is utterly batshit crazy, I can assure you.)
