Everything positive we have been hearing about X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST just came to a screeching halt. Director Matthew Vaughn has stepped down and will only produce the sequel to X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.
Deadline reports that the top choice to replace Vaughn is none other than Bryan Singer, current producer and director of the first two X-MEN movies.
Rumor has it that Vaughn will be directing another comic book movie for Fox instead: Mark Millar’s SECRET SERVICE. The comic sounds pretty cool: When Gary, a kid from a difficult home in a South London housing estate gets jailed for motor theft and reckless driving under the influence it looks like it’s all over for him. But when his Mum calls in his Uncle Jack, Gary’s given a second chance. Although it may not be the second chance he was expecting, as Uncle Jack works for the British Government.
I am still trying to process what the hell is going on. So, Vaughn originally did not want to direct the sequel, then came back and wrote the script treatment, and is now stepping away again. Include the fact that Millar and Vaughn have been planning to make SECRET SERVICE together and Millar is now the Marvel consultant at Fox. This will mark the second sequel Vaughn has opted to not direct. The other being KICK ASS 2. Bryan Singer has not had a great deal of luck lately. His JACK THE GIANT SLAYER has been bounced around like crazy and his recent series MOCKINGBIRD LANE has been banished to a Halloween special this Friday.
I wouldn’t mind Singer since he has proven to be a great director in the past but Fox needs to figure this out soon or they may endanger the scheduled release date of July 18, 2014.
