Sherlock Holmes has found his love. Rachel McAdams has signed on to star in SHERLOCK HOLMES where she’ll play Irene Adler, love interest to Sherlock. McAdams joins Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law and Mark Strong in the Guy Ritchie film. While the Irene Adler character only appeared in one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Sherlock Holmes” stories, she is expected to play a much larger role in the film and nay possible sequels. As previously reported, Law will be playing Watson with Strong starring as the film’s villain, Blackwood. After being oddly quiet after the success of WEDDING CRASHERS, McAdams has a number of high-profile films on the way including STATE OF PLAY and THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE (both of which are due in 2009). Filming on SHERLOCK HOLMES, who you can be assured will be kicking more ass than peering through a magnifying glass, is expected to begin next month with a summer 2009 release planned.
