Michael Jackson: The Verdict: The trailer for Netflix’s 3-part documentary dissects the King of Pop’s trial and complex legacy

While Antoine Fuqua’s Michael (read our review here) continues to make money at the box office with over $700 million in worldwide ticket sales, Netflix is gearing up for its own investigation into the life and times of the Gloved One with Michael Jackson: The Verdict, a three-part documentary that’s bound to be as divisive as the King of Pop himself. The streamer dropped a trailer and art for Michael Jackson: The Verdict today, and the promo is as chilling as you’d expect.

In 2003, Michael Jackson was charged with multiple counts of child molestation, setting off a media firestorm and courtroom proceedings that captivated millions. His acquittal on all counts only further stoked public interest in the larger-than-life celebrity at the center of the trial, interest that continues to persist long after Jackson died in 2009.

What will Netflix’s new documentary cover?

When Michael Jackson: The Verdict premieres on Netflix on June 3, the docuseries “revisits the case that became one of the most closely watched legal sagas of all time. Featuring key individuals who were inside the courtroom, including jurors, eyewitnesses, and accusers and defenders alike, the three-part docuseries dissects the case against Jackson from the perspectives of both the prosecution and the defense.”

Nick Green directs Michael Jackson: The Verdict, which includes new interviews with participants involved in the trial, including jurors, as well as media figures who were inside the courtroom and observed the case unfold firsthand.

The doc promises to reveal aspects of the trial we never saw

“It has been 20 years since the trial of Michael Jackson, in which he was found not guilty. Yet, to this day, controversy still rages,” the filmmakers told Tudum. “No cameras were allowed in court, and so the public’s view of the facts at the time was filtered by commentators and presented piecemeal. It was time to take a forensic look at the trial as a whole.

“Anyone interested in the Michael Jackson story should feel this documentary gives them a window into what was largely a closed event and a chance to feel closer to what happened.”

Netflix’s new documentary is sure to strike a chord with fans of all kinds of Michael Jackson. He’s a legendary entertainer with a questionable legacy that was never fully resolved before his death, leaving many questions unanswered. Will Michael Jackson: The Verdict finally reveal the truth? We’ll find out in June.
