Michael Rooker in talks to play King Shark in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad

It's only natural to assume that James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD will include one or two of the director's frequent collaborators, and for a while there, it seemed like Dave Bautista would be the one to follow Gunn to his new project. However, Bautista's schedule is apparently too busy for the actor to commit to the role Gunn had in mind for him, but it seems that another GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY actor will be joining THE SUICIDE SQUAD anyway.

According to The Wrap, it seems that Mary Poppins himself is in talks to join the cast of THE SUICIDE SQUAD as King Shark. Michael Rooker has appeared in a number of James Gunn projects, including SLITHER, SUPER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, THE BELKO EXPERIMENT, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, and I'm sure that he'd be a wonderful fit for King Shark. Nothing is official just yet, so take this news with a grain of salt for now. King Shark, a humanoid shark whose father is the Shark God, will be a new addition to the SUICIDE SQUAD franchise, and will be joined by Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), Ratcatcher (Daniela Melchior), and Peacemaker (rumoured to be John Cena). Although most of the team will be new additions, THE SUICIDE SQUAD will also see Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Idris Elba is also set to star as a new character, and not as Deadshot as was originally reported.

Michael Rooker will next be seen in FANTASY ISLAND, a big-screen adaptation of the TV series of the same name, and is currently filming MONSTER PROBLEMS, a post-apocalyptic movie about a young man fighting monsters on his way to meet the girl he loves. THE SUICIDE SQUAD is stated for a August 6, 2021 release.
