Michelle Pfeiffer would consider a Catwoman return

Michelle Pfeiffer, Catwoman

Michelle Pfeiffer is widely considered the best actress to play Catwoman across the big and small screen but would she be willing to return to the role after all these years? The fact that Michael Keaton is returning as Batman in The Flash and Batgirl movies has opened up the possibility of past performers returning to their iconic roles and the actress gave her answer to that question during a recent profile in The Hollywood Reporter.

Pfeiffer was asked about a return as Catwoman because of Keaton’s return to the franchise and she left the door open to the possibility if it felt right. Pfeiffer said, “It would depend on the context but, yeah, I’d consider it.” If anything, Keaton’s return shows it’s never too late and I’d argue that Pfeiffer still has it in her to crack that whip.

Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, a sequel to 1989’s Batman, introduced us to Pfeiffer’s Selina Kyle, the meek and shy secretary of Christopher Walken’s Max Schreck that is transformed into the confident, deadly, and slightly unhinged Catwoman after Shreck attempts to kill her. Batman Returns is a tad divisive because it’s a bit dark and, at the time of its release, the film came under fire from parents because the movie was marketed to children despite its more adult undertones. Pfeiffer’s Catwoman is still considered one of the strongest aspects of the film and it’s a role that many people still identify her with. Batman Returns has also gone on to be reevaluated over the years and some fans think it’s even better than the first film.

I would honestly be open to this if they could make it work. Even though actresses like Anne Hathaway and Zoe Kravitz have done solid things with the role, it’s my personal opinion that no one has topped Pfeiffer and it’s a part that still remains hers.
