The monster success of the FAST & FURIOUS franchise is probably one of the most inexplicable in movie history. It’s even more amazing when you consider how the film series we see today didn’t coalesce until, like, the fifth one. Even if you enjoy the earlier films (with the first one coming out in 2001) they are pretty different in tone and scale. Hell, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel didn’t even share the screen together again until the fourth one.
But with a long-running series like this, you’re not only adding new blood (like The Rock and Jason Statham), but also possibly losing old friends (like Paul Walker). Another one might bite the dust, however, if this Instagram post from Michelle Rodriguez is anything to go by:

F8 is out digitally today, I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one. Or I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise. It’s been a good ride & Im grateful for the opportunity the fans & studio have provided over the years…One Love
I personally can see where she’s coming from. While I actually think Rodriguez’s character is pretty strong overall, and Charlize Theron‘s character was definitely a cool villain, the only other female heroines in the last film were a redundant hacker and a fridged girlfriend. And even Rodriguez isn’t given much to do plot-wise.
And this isn’t even the first time social media was used to fuel grudges, as seen earlier with the same movie when The Rock went on a tirade about a “candy-ass” co-star that turned out to be a big beef between him and Vin Diesel. I myself am not a huge fan of this franchise, but I know many friends who are, so I hope this gets sorted out for their sake.
Meanwhile FAST 9 (probably will have a different title than that upon release) is penciled in for April 19th, 2019
